1

Then Tobit the elder opened his mouth, blessing the Lord, and said: "Great art thou, O Lord, forever, and thy kingdom throughout all ages. Cursed be they that despise thee, and they that blaspheme thee shall be condemned. And blessed be they that build thee.

2

For thou dost wound, and thou dost heal; thou bringest down to hell, and bringest up again; and there is none that can escape thy hand. Blessed am I if there remaineth of my offspring one that shall behold the glory of Jerusalem. Blessed be the Lord who hath exalted her, and may His kingdom be in her for evermore. Amen.

3

Give thanks to the Lord, O ye children of Israel, and praise Him before all nations;

4

For He hath scattered you among the nations who know Him not, that ye might declare His wonders and make them know that there is no God Almighty save Him.

5

He hath chastened us for our iniquities, and He will save us for His mercy.

6

Now behold what He hath done for us, and confess Him with fear and trembling, and magnify the King of ages with your works.

7

As for me, in the land of my captivity, I give thanks to Him, for He hath shown His majesty in a sinful nation.

8

Turn now, ye sinners, and do righteousness before God, trusting that He will show you mercy.

9

As for me, my soul doth rejoice in Him.

10

Bless the Lord, all ye His chosen ones; keep days of joy and confess Him.

11

O Jerusalem, thou city of God, the Lord hath chastened thee for the works of thine hands.

12

Give thanks to God for His goodness unto thee, and bless the God of ages, that He may return and build His tabernacle within thee, and bring back to thee all the inhabitants of captivity, and thou shalt rejoice for evermore.

13

Thou shalt shine with a glorious light, and all the peoples of the earth shall worship thee.

14

Nations shall visit thee from the ends of the earth with their gifts, and shall worship the Lord in thee, and shall esteem thy land as holy.

15

For they shall call upon the great Name in thee.

17

But thou shalt rejoice in thy children, for they shall be blessed, and they shall be gathered to the Lord.

18

Blessed are they that love thee and rejoice in thy peace.

19

Bless the Lord, O my soul, for the Lord our God hath delivered His city from all her troubles.

21

The gates of Jerusalem shall be of sapphire and emerald, and all the circuit of her walls of precious stone.

22

And all her streets shall be paved with pure white stone, and in her streets shall be sung, Hallelujah.
