After this, Nathan rose up and prophesied in the days of David. The Lord forgave his sins and exalted his horn forever. He covenanted with him concerning the kingdom and a throne of glory in Israel. Solomon reigned in days of peace, and God gave him rest on every side, that he might build a house for His Name and prepare a sanctuary forever. How great was thy wisdom in thy youth, and thy understanding which overflowed like a river! For thy genius covered the earth, filling it with proverbs of riddles. Thy name reached distant islands, and thou wast loved for thy peace.

As the fat is separated from the sacrifice of peace offerings, so David was separated from among the children of Israel. Thou didst put a blemish in thy glory and defiled thy seed, bringing wrath upon thy sons. Thy folly broke my heart, Rehoboam, the foolish whose counsel stirred up the people to rebellion, and Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin and taught Ephraim the way of transgression, so that their sins multiplied.

He played with lions as with kids, and with bears as with lambs of the flock.

Did he not slay the giant when he was young? Did he not remove reproach from his people?

For he lifted his hand with a sling stone, and brought down the arrogance of Goliath.

For he called upon the Most High Lord, and He gave strength to his right hand to slay a man mighty in battle, and to exalt the horn of his people.

So the Lord gave him the glory of slaying tens of thousands, and praised him with His blessings, for He transferred to him a crown of glory.

For he shattered the enemies on every side, and destroyed the opposing Philistines, and broke their horn even to this day.

In all his works, he confessed the Most High Holy One with words of glory.

With all his heart he praised and loved his Maker.

He appointed singers before the altar and taught them sweet melodies.

He gave splendor to the feasts and adornment to the seasons until the end, that His holy name might be praised and sung in His sanctuary from the morning.

After him arose a wise son, and by his hand he rested in ample space.

The lands wondered at thy songs, thy proverbs, thy riddles, and thy interpretations.

In the Name of the Lord God, described as the God of Israel.

Thou didst gather gold as tin, and silver as lead.

Thou didst incline thy thighs to women, and they prevailed over thy body.

Until the kingdom was divided into two, and from Ephraim arose a rebellious king.

But the Lord will not abandon His mercy, nor will He destroy any of His works. He will not destroy the chastisement of His chosen, nor will He utterly destroy His beloved offspring.

So He left a remnant for Jacob, and a root of David from him.

And Solomon rested with his fathers.

And after him, one foolish among the people succeeded him from his offspring.

Greatly, until He exiled them from their land.

And they sought all evil, until retribution befell them.
