Joshua the son of Nun was valiant in wars, and was the successor of Moses in the prophecies. He judged the congregation according to the law of the Lord, and the Lord found Jacob with his faith; he was proven to be a prophet, and by his faith he knew he was a true visionary.

And as his name, so was he great in the salvation of his elect, and severe in revenge upon the resisting enemies, that he might give Israel an inheritance.

How great was his glory when he lifted his hands, and discharged his spear against the cities!

Who came before him that was his equal? For the Lord himself delivered the enemies unto him.

Did not the sun go backward by his hand, and the day became as it were two days?

He called upon the Most High, when he was vanquishing enemies on every side, and the great Lord heard him with hailstones of great weight.

He rushed upon the nation in battle, and in the descent he destroyed the adversaries.

That the nations might know the completeness of their preparations, and that his war was before the Lord, for he was obedient to the Almighty.

And in the days of Moses, he and Caleb the son of Jephunneh showed mercy, as they stood against the enemy, and turned the people from sin, and quelled the evil murmuring.

And they alone remained of the six hundred thousand footmen, to bring them into the inheritance, into a land flowing with milk and honey.

And the Lord gave Caleb strength, and it remained with him unto his old age, so he ascended to that high place of the land which his seed received as an inheritance.

That all the children of Israel might know that obedience is good unto the Lord.

And the judges, each one by his name, whose hearts did not play false with the Lord, nor did they turn aside from Him.

Let their memory be blessed, and let their bones flourish from their places.

And let their name be renewed, and let their children glorify them.

Samuel, beloved of the Lord, a prophet of the Lord, established the king and anointed the rulers of his people.

He called upon the Almighty Lord when his enemies were pressing on every side, and he offered a sucking lamb.

Then the Lord thundered from heaven, and with a great roar He made His voice heard.

And He broke in pieces the chiefs of the Tyrians and all the princes of Philistia.

And before his repose, he testified in his lifetime before the Lord and His anointed, that I have taken no man's money, nor even a shoe, nor did any man accuse him wrongfully.

And after his repose, he prophesied and informed the king of his death, and his voice was raised from the earth in prophecy to blot out the iniquity of the people.
