He that liveth forever created all things in general. The Lord alone is justified.

He hath not permitted any to declare His works; the wise is cautious in everything, and in days of sins he guardeth against stumbling. The prudent in speech accomplish their works with wisdom, and utter fitting proverbs.

And who can search out His great deeds? Delight not in the multitude of banquets, neither bind thyself to spend upon them.

Who can number the strength of His majesty? And who shall presume to declare His mercies?

It is not for man to diminish from the wonders of the Lord, nor to add unto them, nor to search them out.

When a man hath finished, then doth he begin; and when he resteth, then is he perplexed.

What is man, and what is his profit? What is his good, and what is his evil?

The days of man at the most are an hundred years. As a drop of water from the sea, and a grain of sand, so are a few years in the day of eternity.

Therefore hath the Lord been long-suffering over them, and hath poured forth His mercy upon them.

He saw and knew that their end was terrible.

Therefore did He multiply His forgiveness.

The mercy of man is to his neighbor; but the mercy of the Lord is on all flesh.

He rebuketh and instructeth and teacheth, and bringeth again as a shepherd his flock.

He hath mercy on them that receive His discipline, and make haste to perform His judgments.

My son, blemish not thy good deeds with fault-finding, neither thy gifts with grievous words.

Shall not the dew assuage the heat? So is a word better than the gift.

Is not a word better than a gift? And both are with a gracious man.

The reproof of a fool is hateful; and the gift of an envious man causeth faintness of eyes.

Before judgment, be certain of justice; and before thou speak, learn.

Before infirmity, seek a physician; and before judgment, examine thyself, and thou shalt find mercy in the day of visitation.

Before thou art sick, humble thyself; and when thou hast committed sins, show thy repentance.

Let nothing hinder thee from paying thy vow in due time, neither defer righteous deeds even unto death; for the reward of the Lord remaineth forever.

Before prayer, prepare thy soul; and be not as one that tempteth the Lord.

Remember the wrath in the days of the end, and the time of recompense when He turneth away His face.

In time of fullness, remember hunger; and in days of riches, remember poverty and need.

From morning till evening the time changeth, and everything is swiftly changed before the Lord.

Every intelligent person knoweth wisdom, and acknowledgeth him that findeth it.

Be not led by thy lusts, but resist thine appetites.

For if thou allow thyself to be pleased with lust, thou wilt become a derision to thine enemies.

Make not thyself poor by banquets, spending upon them from debt, and having nothing in thy purse; for by such means thou layest in wait for thine own life.
