And when Tobias thought that his prayer was heard, and that he was prepared to die, he called to him Tobiah his son,

And said unto him, Hear, my son, the words of my mouth, and lay them as a foundation in thine heart.

When God shall take my soul, bury my body; and honor thy mother all the days of her life.

And remember what afflictions she endured for thee in her womb, and how severe they were.

And when she also hath accomplished the time of her life, bury her by my side.

And as for thee, let God be in thy heart all the days of thy life, and beware that thou consent not to sin, nor transgress the commandments of the Lord our God.

Give alms of thy substance; and turn not thy face from any poor man, and then the face of the Lord shall not be turned away from thee.

Be merciful according to thy ability.

If thou hast much, give plenteously; if thou hast little, endeavor to give cheerfully a little.

For so thou layest up for thyself a good reward against the day of necessity.

For alms doth deliver from every sin and from death, and suffereth not the soul to come into darkness.

Alms is a great hope before the most High God for all them that give it.

Beware for thyself, my son, of all fornication, and never transgress against thy wife, permitting the knowledge of iniquity.

And let not pride take hold of thy thoughts and words; for pride is the beginning of all destruction.

And whosoever doth service unto thee for anything, pay him his wages immediately: the wages of thy hired servant let it not abide with thee at all.

What thou hatest, do to no man.

Eat thy bread with the hungry and the needy, and clothe the naked with thy garments.

Place thy bread and thy wine upon the tomb of the just, and eat not nor drink thereof with sinners.

Seek counsel of the wise always.

And bless God at all times, and entreat Him to direct thy ways and to establish all thy counsels in Him.

And therefore, see how thou mayest go to him and receive from him the aforesaid weight of silver, and restore unto him his handwriting.
