1

Whoso seeketh vengeance shall find vengeance from the Lord, and he will surely keep his sins in remembrance.

2

Forgive thy neighbour the hurt that he hath done unto thee; so shall thy sins also be forgiven when thou prayest.

3

Doth one man harbour wrath against another, and doth he seek healing from the Lord?

4

Doth he not have mercy on a man like himself, and yet he asketh forgiveness for his own sins?

5

If he that is but flesh nourish hatred, who will entreat for his sins?

6

Remember thy last end, and cease from hatred.

7

Remember corruption and death, and abide in the commandments.

8

Remember the commandments, and bear no malice to thy neighbour.

9

Remember the covenant of the Most High, and wink at ignorance.

10

Forsake contention, and thou shalt diminish sins.

11

For a furious man will kindle strife, and a sinful man will trouble friends, and make debate among them that be at peace.

12

As the wood is, so the fire burneth; and as a man's power is, so is his wrath; and according to his riches he increaseth his indignation; and a hasty contention kindleth the fire.

13

A hasty contention kindleth the fire, and a hasty quarreling bringeth forth blood.

14

If thou blow the spark, it shall burn; if thou spit upon it, it shall be quenched: and both these come out of thy mouth.

15

The whisperer and double-tongued is accursed; for he hath destroyed many that were at peace.

16

A third tongue hath disquieted many, and driven them from nation to nation.

17

It hath pulled down mighty cities, and overthrown the houses of great men.

18

It hath broken the armies of the nations, and scattered mighty countries.

19

A third tongue hath cast out virtuous women, and deprived them of their labours.

20

Whoso hearkeneth unto it shall not find rest, neither shall he dwell in quietness.

21

The stroke of a whip maketh marks in the flesh: but the stroke of the tongue breaketh the bones.

22

Many have fallen by the edge of the sword: but not so many as have fallen by the tongue.

23

Blessed is he that is defended from it, and hath not passed through the venom thereof; who hath not drawn the yoke thereof, nor hath been bound in her bands.

24

For the yoke thereof is a yoke of iron, and the bands thereof are bands of brass.

25

The death thereby is a grievous death; and the grave were better than it.

26

It shall not have rule over the godly; and they shall not be burned with her flame.

27

For they that forsake the Lord shall fall into it; and it shall burn among them, and shall not be quenched; it shall be sent upon them as a lion, and devour them as a leopard.

28

Hedge thy possession about with thorns.

29

Shut up thy silver and gold, and make a balance and a weight for thy words; and make a door and bar for thy mouth.

30

And take heed lest thou slip with it, and fall before him that lieth in wait for thee.
