1

Wisdom shall praise herself, and shall glory in the midst of her people. In every nation and kindred hath she had dominion, and in them all hath she taken root.

2

She shall open her mouth in the congregation of the Most High, and shall glory in the presence of His host. As the plane tree and the frankincense in the tabernacle, I stretch out my branches as the turpentine tree, and my branches are branches of glory and grace. In all grace of the way and the truth, and all hope of life and virtue, come unto her, ye that long for her, and be filled with her fruits, and my memorial shall remain for generations of ages. Whoso eateth me shall yet hunger, and whoso drinketh me shall yet thirst.

3

And shall be exalted in her people, and glorified in the congregation of the saints.

4

And shall be praised among all the elect, and blessed among the blessed, and shall say, Behold, my channel is become a river, and my river is become a sea.

5

I came out of the mouth of the Most High, the firstborn before all creation.

6

I made the light to shine forth in the heavens perpetually, and covered the whole earth as with a mist.

7

I dwelt in the high places, and my throne is in a cloudy pillar.

8

I alone compassed the circuit of heaven, and walked in the depth of the abysses, and trod upon the waves of the sea.

9

And my foot hath trodden upon every land, and upon every people.

11

By my power I have trodden down the hearts of the great and the small; in all this I sought rest, and in what inheritance shall I abide?

12

Then the Creator of all things gave me a commandment, and He that made me caused my tabernacle to rest.

14

Before the ages, from the beginning, He created me, and unto all ages I shall not fail. And I ministered before Him in the holy tabernacle.

15

Thus was I established in Sion, and in the beloved city was I given a dwelling place, and my authority is in Jerusalem.

16

So I took root in a glorious people, and in the portion of the Lord, in His inheritance, and in the congregation of the saints is my place.

17

I was exalted like a cedar in Libanus, and like a cypress tree upon the mountains of Hermon.

18

Like palm trees by the water, and like rose plants in Jericho.

19

As a fair olive tree in the plain, and as a plane tree by the watercourses in the streets.

20

I gave a sweet smell like cinnamon and aromatic cane, and I spread abroad my scent like choice myrrh.

23

I am as the vine bringing forth grace, and my flowers are the fruits of glory and riches.

24

I am the mother of fair love, and fear, and knowledge, and holy hope.

27

For my spirit is sweeter than honey, and my inheritance is more delicious than the honeycomb.

30

Whoso heareth me shall not be ashamed; and they that work by me shall not err.

31

Whoso explaineth me shall have eternal life.

32

All these things are the book of life, and the covenant of the Most High, and the knowledge of the truth.

33

For Moses commanded the law, and the ordinances of justice, for an inheritance to the house of Jacob, and the promises of Israel.

34

The Lord promised David His servant that He would raise up of him a mighty king, who should sit upon the throne of glory forever.

35

He poureth forth wisdom as Phison, and as Tigris in the days of new fruits.

36

And filleth them as Euphrates, and as Jordan in the time of harvest.

37

And bringeth forth instruction as the light, and as Gihon in the days of vintage.

38

Wisdom reacheth not to the full knowledge of the first, neither doth the last explore her.

39

For her thought is broader than the sea, and her counsel deeper than the great abyss.

40

I am Wisdom, who poureth forth rivers.

41

I am as a channel from a river, and as a conduit I went forth into paradise.

42

I said, I will water my garden, and I will water my garden plot.

44

For I will enlighten instruction as the morning, and will declare it unto the ends.

45

I shall penetrate into all the depths of the earth, and I shall behold all that sleep, and I shall enlighten all them that hope in the Lord.

46

I shall pour forth doctrine like prophecy, and I shall leave it behind for generations of ages.

47

For behold, how my labor was not for myself only, but for all them that seek wisdom.
