A slothful man is compared to a filthy stone; every one will hiss at his disgrace. Weep for the dead, for he hath lost the light; weep for the fool, for he hath lost understanding. Weep for the dead seven days; but for a fool and an ungodly man, all the days of his life. Keep far from him, lest he trouble thee, and defile thee with his wickedness. Turn from him, and thou shalt find rest, and his foolishness shall not grieve thee. The timber bound fast in a building, shall not be shaken by an earthquake: so a heart established, by counsel shall not be afraid.

As dung dropped on a heap of dirt, so is the slothful; every hand that toucheth him will shake it off. As stakes set high will not withstand the wind, so shall not he that setteth his house on high. If thou hast drawn thy sword against thy friend, despair not, for he may return. If thou hast opened thy mouth against thy friend, fear not, for he may reconcile himself. But for upbraiding, and pride, and betraying of secrets, and a treacherous wound, every friend will flee. Be faithful to thy neighbor in his poverty, that thou mayest partake with him in his good things.

A son that is without education is a shame to his father: and a daughter that is naught is to his loss.

A discreet daughter shall be an inheritance to her husband; but she that is shameful is a grief to her father.

She that is bold bringeth shame to her father and her husband, and both of them shall despise her.

Singing in time of sorrow is as a story of many words; but stripes and correction are wisdom at all times.

He that teacheth a fool is like one that glueth a potsherd together.

And like one that awaketh a man out of a deep sleep.

He that speaketh to a fool speaketh to one in a slumber: when he hath ended, he saith, What is the matter?

Weep but a little for the dead, for he is at rest.

But the life of a fool is worse than his death.

Speak not much with a fool, and go not with him that hath no understanding.

What is heavier than lead? and what is it called but a fool?

Sand, and salt, and a mass of iron, is easier to bear than a man without understanding.

A heart established by counsel is as an ornament of sand on a polished wall.

So the heart of a fool that feareth in his thoughts, shall not endure in a time of any terror.

The heart of a fool feareth in his thoughts; but he that continueth always in the commandments of God shall never fear.

He that pricketh the eye bringeth forth tears: and he that pricketh the heart bringeth forth the feeling.

He that casteth a stone at birds frayeth them away: and he that upbraideth his friend breaketh friendship.

Stand with him in the time of his trouble, that thou mayest be partaker with him of his inheritance.

Before the fire, smoke and vapor; and before bloodshed, reproaches.
