Then Judith sang this hymn to the Lord, and said:

Praise the Lord with timbrels; sing unto Him with cymbals. Exalt Him and call upon His name. The Lord crush the wars, His name is the Lord.

He set His camp in the midst of His people, that He might deliver us from the hands of all our enemies.

Asshur came from the mountains of the north; he came in the multitude of his strength. His multitude covered the valleys, and his horses covered the plains.

He said, He will burn my borders, and slay my young men with the sword, and make my children a spoil, and my virgins captives.

The Lord Almighty hath smitten him, and hath delivered him into the hand of a woman, and she hath wounded him.

For their mighty one fell not by the hands of young men, neither did the sons of the Titans smite him, nor did tall giants set themselves against him; but Judith, the daughter of Merari, with the beauty of her countenance, destroyed him.

She put off the garments of her widowhood, and put on the garments of joy for the rejoicing of the children of Israel.

She anointed her face with perfume, and bound her hair with a crown, and put on her splendid garments, to entice him.

The beauty of her sandal ravished his eyes, and her attractiveness ensnared his soul; so she cut off his head with his own sword.

Then did Persia tremble at her firmness, and Media at her boldness.

Then did the camp of the Assyrians wail, when His humble ones appeared, burning with thirst.

The children of concubines wounded them grievously, and slew them as if they were defeated boys, so they perished in battle before the Lord my God.

Therefore let us sing praises to the Lord, and let us sing a new song to our God.

O Lord Adonai, Thou art great and renowned in Thy might, and none can stand against Thee.

Let all Thy creation worship Thee, for Thou didst speak, and they were made; Thou didst send forth Thy Spirit, and they were created; and there is none that can resist Thy word.

The mountains are shaken from their foundations with the waters, and the rocks melt as wax before Thy face.

And they that fear Thee shall be exalted with Thee in all things.

Woe unto the nation that riseth up against My people; the Almighty shall take vengeance on them, and in the day of judgment He shall visit them.

He shall give their flesh to fire and worms, that they may burn and suffer forever.

And after these things, all the people, after their victory, came to Jerusalem to worship the Lord; and when they had purified themselves, they all offered their burnt offerings, and their vows, and their promises.

And Judith also offered all the instruments of Holofernes' war, which the people had given her, and the tent which she had taken from his bed, a memorial.

And the people rejoiced at the sight of the holy things, and they celebrated for the joy of this victory with Judith for three months.

And after those days, every man returned to his house; and Judith was greatly exalted in the house of Manasseh, and she was the most honored in all the land of Israel.

And chastity was joined with courage in her, and she knew no man all the days of her life, since the death of Manasseh her husband.

And on the feasts, she appeared in great glory.

And she remained in the house of her husband for one hundred and five years, and she freed her handmaid, and she died and was buried with her husband in Bethulia.

And all the people mourned for her seven days.

And there was none in all her lifetime who troubled Israel, nor after her death for many years.

And the day of this victory was reckoned among the holy days by the Hebrews, and the Jews celebrate it from that time until this day.
