Then Judith said unto all the people, Hearken unto me, my brethren. Hang ye this head upon our walls.

And as soon as the sun is up, let every man take his weapons, and go forth out of the city, not to go down but as if ye were minded to assault them.

Then will the watchmen needs flee unto their chief captain, to rouse him up to battle.

And when his captains and the chief of them that are with him shall go to the tent of Holofernes, and find him without his head wallowing in his blood, fear shall fall upon them.

And when ye perceive that they are fleeing, pursue after them safely; for the Lord shall crush them under your feet.

And when Achior saw all that the God of Israel had wrought, he turned from the custom of the Gentiles, and believed in God, and circumcised the flesh of his foreskin, and was joined unto the house of Israel, he and all his progeny even unto this day.

And when the day began to dawn, they hanged the head of Holofernes upon the walls, and every man took his weapons, and they went forth with a great shout and a exceeding cry.

When the spies saw it, they hasted to the tent of Holofernes.

Then came they that were in the tent, and clamoured at the entrance of the chamber to wake him up, and they made a great noise, that Holofernes might be awakened by their outcry, yet none did awake him.

For none durst knock or enter at the door of the chamber of the chief captain of the Assyrians.

But when his captains and the chiliarchs and all the great ones of the army of the king of Assur came, they said to the chamberlain,

Go in and wake him up, for the mice are come forth out of her hole, and have dared to stir us up to battle.

Then Bagoas went into his chamber, and stood at the curtain, and clapped his hands together, for he thought that he was sleeping with Judith.

But when he perceived no motion upon hearing, he drew nigh unto the curtain, and lifted it up, and when he saw the body of Holofernes without his head, and that he was wallowing in his blood, cast upon the ground, he cried with a loud voice and rent his garments.

And then he went into the tent of Judith, and found her not; so he went forth unto the people without.

And said, An Hebrew woman hath troubled the house of King Nebuchadnezzar; behold, Holofernes lieth upon the ground without his head.

When the chiefs of the army of the Assyrians heard it, they all rent their garments, and there fell upon them such terror and fear as was intolerable, and their hearts were greatly troubled.

And there was an exceeding great cry in their camp, such as had not been heard before.
