A wise judge will instruct his people; and the government of a prudent man is orderly. No one is more abominable in iniquity than he that loveth money; for he himself will also make himself a commodity. And he hath cast out his bowels during his lifetime. The beginning of man's pride is to depart from the Lord; for his heart doth turn away from his Maker. For pride is the beginning of sin; and he that holdeth fast thereto shall pour forth abominations. He hath overthrown the thrones of princes, and set the meek in their stead.

As the judge of the people is himself, so are his officers; and what manner of man the ruler of the city is, such are all they that dwell therein. He hath made some barren, and consumed their inhabitants, and removed their memorial from the earth. The rich, and the glorious, and the poor, their glory is the fear of the Lord. The great, and the judge, and the mighty are honored; and there is none among them greater than he that feareth the Lord.

An undisciplined king destroyeth his people; and a city is peopled by the understanding of its rulers.

The power of the earth is in the hand of the Lord; and in due time he will set over it one that is profitable.

The success of a man is in the hand of the Lord; and upon the face of the scribe he shall make his glory.

If your neighbor hath wronged you in anything, be not wroth with him, neither do anything of reviling.

Pride is hateful to the Lord and to men; and its way is to commit iniquity before both parties.

Verily, a kingdom is transferred from one nation to another because of unrighteousness, and insults, and riches.

No one is more heinous in sin than a miser. Why doth dust and ashes vaunt itself?

All authority is short-lived. A long sickness grieveth the physician.

So the physician cutteth off the sickness before it be too long; so the king reigneth today, and tomorrow he dieth.

And at his death, man inheriteth serpents, and beasts, and worms.

And for this cause the Lord sent strange plagues, and destroyed them utterly.

He plucked up the roots of the nations, and planted the humble in their stead.

The Lord overturned the lands of the nations, and destroyed them to the foundations of the earth.

The Lord hath blotted out the memorial of the proud, and hath preserved the memorial of the humble in spirit.

Pride was not created with men, nor wrath with the offspring of women.

What generation is honorable? The generation of the Lord. What generation is despicable? The generation of man. What generation is despicable? They that transgress the commandments.

Among brethren, their chief is honored. So in the eyes of the Lord are they that fear him.

It is not right that a wise poor man should be dishonored; neither is it proper that a sinful man should be honored.

A wise servant freemen shall serve; and a prudent man complaineth not.

Be not idle in labor, neither be puffed up in time of distress.

For he that laboureth in every good work is better than he that walketh proudly, or is puffed up, while he is in want of bread.

My son, glorify thyself with meekness, and give to her of honor what she deserveth.

Who can justify him that sinneth against himself? And who can honor him that despiseth his own life?

The poor man is honored for his work; and the rich man is honored for his riches.

He that is honored with poverty, how much more with riches? And he that is dishonored with riches, how much more with poverty?
